Register for the Workshop

SafeTALK trainees learn to identify when someone is considering suicide and connect them to intervention providers, creating a network of safety around these resources. This network significantly enhances the reach and impact of intervention efforts.

This September, as we observe Suicide Prevention Month, Partnership Carson City emphasizes the importance of recognizing the signs of suicidal behavior and knowing how to provide support. Together, we can save lives and build a healthier, more supportive community.

Recognizing the Signs of Suicide

Being able to identify the warning signs of suicide is crucial for prevention. Some common signs include:

– Talking about wanting to die or expressing feelings of hopelessness.
– Withdrawing from friends, family and activities.
– Displaying extreme mood swings or sudden changes in behavior.
– Giving away possessions or saying goodbye to loved ones.
– Increased use of alcohol or drugs.
– Engaging in reckless behavior or taking unnecessary risks.

How to Help Someone in Crisis

If you recognize these signs in someone, here are ways to offer help:

– Start a conversation: Speak openly and directly about their feelings.
– Listen with empathy: Provide a non-judgmental space for them to talk.
– Connect to resources: Guide them to professional support and encourage seeking help.
– Stay with them: Do not leave them alone until they are connected to help.
